What a crazy event! Good scraps from top to bottom and towards the end the fights were really intense and keeping you at the edge of your seat. As always, my prediction accuracy was quite low, with only one of the winner picks going right. Let's start to break down the fights from the main event. Stipe started very timidly. I was fully expecting him to come out strong and dominate the early exchanges, but it seemed like DC knocking him out the first time around had him second-guessing a bit. Whatever the reason, DC dominated the first round. His striking was looking sharp and he got the takedown to solidify the round. In the second something changed. DC wanted to get reckless for god knows why. He kept walking Stipe down with his hands down, moving his head only a little, willingly eating shots. Before I get to the predictions for the weekend's fights, let me just start by saying that the ONE FC card that ended a bit ago was straight up fire. Their MMA fights tend to flatter to deceive, except in the smaller weight classes, but the Muay Thai and kickboxing really delivered. Consistently good violence on display. Anyway, let's start talking about the UFC event of the weekend... Main Event: Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic As always, there is a lot of unknown quantities here. Cormier's last fight was 10 months ago, against Derrick Lewis... so it really does not mean jack shit. 10 months is also a long time in the age Daniel is at. There is always the risk that you just get old "overnight" and it really shows in the performance. That is not to say that will happen against Stipe, but eventually father time catches up with everyone. Stipe on the other hand is even more of an unknown quantity.
