UFC Fight Night 208 Post-Fight Analysis

Despite getting most of my picks right, I got absolutely massacred in UFC London. Just retarded bets in the end. Main Card Main event was another one of those random events that has been plaguing me lately, but to be fair even Aspinall win was not gonna stop the event from being terrible for me. We didn't really get to see anything to know how the fight would have gone, but either way the Unders looked good, the both guys went after it right away. Curtis called Hermansson goofy but I think him taking beating while doing his best Romero impression was the goofy thing. Hermansson showed there is levels to this game, and at best Curtis is a guy who beats lower level  UFC guys. This one was particularly painful bet to get wrong, cause I correctly thought Hermansson would be busier and edge close decision most of the time, but somehow ended up still making decisively the wrong bet. Paddy showed everyone that he was better than Leavitt everywhere and finished him in the 2nd. One of the e...

UFC Fight Night 208 Preview & Predictions

Fun card in London, let's quickly go through the fights.  Main Event: Curtis Blaydes vs. Tom Aspinall Binary fight, but big questionmark on how Aspinall deals with wrestling and getting taken deep. On the other hand, Blaydes does have poor set-ups and could get just nuked on the entry. In the end I'm gonna play the only play that's for sure gonna be live, Aspinall early. Even if Blaydes could gas him out and outwrestle him, he might still run into something early and get put out.  Prediction: Aspinall / ITD Bets: 1u Asp R1 to win 4u, 3u under 2.5 rounds to win 2.4u, 2u Asp R1/2/3 to win 3.4u Co-Main Event: Jack Hermansson vs. Chris Curtis Curtis ain't that great but he keeps getting great match-ups for himself, his skillset of having decent boxing and good takedown defence works out pretty well for him. Expect him to be able to keep this mostly on the feet where it ends up being pretty close, high volume striking battle that could go either way. Both guys very durable s...

UFC on ABC 3 Post-Fight Analysis

Honestly the fights were largely very good in the event even if the ending was a little lackluster. Main Card The main event was bit of a dud as after a promising start, Ortega dislocated his shoulder and fight was over. Really random outcome, it did look like it was gonna be a close one and that the submission was live,  as Ortega was for once actually proactively looking to grapple. Rodriguez was winning the stand-up exchanges so anything might have happened if the fight went on. Michelle Waterson might have a new name but still up to her old tricks, fighting carefully on the outside and grappling when the opportunity arises. That was working for it looked like he at least had a shout to winning the first round. However in the second she got stuck in a tight guillotine and that was all it took.  Li Jingliang and Muslim Salikhov had the low-volume fight we expected. It was a questionmark whether Salikhov's age would finally show and indeed it did show, as Leech managed to roc...

UFC on ABC 3 Preview & Predictions

Somehow I always end up on huge exposure... Main Event: Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez When Jiri was last fighting, I said that retard strength and chin is the best base for MMA. Well that's exactly what Ortega has at least in context of featherweights. He is gonna be outgunned on the feet but we really have not seen Yair in recent years against a dangerous grappler like this, most of his opponents have been very content to just strike with him. Think that just changes the dynamic enough to favor Ortega, and if Ortega can consistently turn this into a grappling match, then the likelihood of finish goes up by a lot. Similarly, if Yair manages to keep this standing, he is gonna give Ortega a lot of damage. Ortega is stupid tough though and hasn't gotten finished even by much more powerful strikers, so I don't think Yair isn't going to finish him.  So overall, I guess I favor this one to go the distance, but if it pans out in the style of fight that favors Ortega, then it...

UFC 276 Post-Fight Analysis

Actually had a solid winning event for once. Main Card Gotta be honest about the main event... I don't think it was as bad as lot of the Adesanya fights lately have been, but the calls for snoozefest aren't completely unfounded as it was still relatively tactical fight, and I did actually fall asleep during the fight. I did read Adesanya got the decision which seems reasonable, he was edging the rounds I saw. I predicted Max v Volk to be like the previous two fights. We had seen 10 relatively close rounds up until that point, and I expected more of the same... Well, although I picked the right winner, I was completely wrong, there was not a single round that was even remotely close. Volk gave Max a beating and won every round by wide margin. Legendary performance. Volk needs to go to 155 to find a challenge. Sean Strickland did exactly the crazy thing you'd think he would do and just stood toe to toe with Alex Pereira. He did well too, parrying, blocking and evading strikes...

UFC 276 Preview & Predictions

Didn't really go above and beyond this week, more gut feeling it. Let's see if I can turn the rough luck lately around or is the bad form gonna continue... Main Event: Israel Adesanya vs. Jared Cannonier Well, Jared has some chance I suppose, but obviously working off of big skill deficit here and needing to just land something big early, either to rock Izzy or damage his leg or something. If they start exchanging leg kicks I fully expect Izzy to be able to give as much as he takes though, but yea, anything might happen if Jared can make it a little chaotic. Not seeing how Izzy would lose a decision though unless Jared can make it an ugly clinchfight. Is Cannonier as big as Jan? Probably not, and I would imagine Izzy has further worked on getting out of grappling situations since that fight. But yea, suppose Cannonier can make it at least kind of dirty if he mixes in lot of clinching, but ultimately I doubt he can sustain a high wrestling pace enough to win the fight, just pote...

UFC on ESPN 38 Post-Fight Analysis

Well, if you follow my Twitter you already know I got butchered in tonight's event. Yet I am left not even feeling like I necessarily could have done much differently. I don't know, let's try to dissect it a bit. Main Card Obviously the main event was not a robbery. The rounds were razor thin, seemingly Arman edging the first two just with bigger moments, landing those loud kicks, while numbers and exchanges were very even. Then comes third round and it starts to seem Arman is actually feeling the pace a bit. Still he rallies and finishes the round strong. If you scored that round for damage, it's very close, you could argue Arman had it, but with lot of grappling control early I can understand if you scored it for Gamrot. Then comes fourth round where Arman again clearly outlands Gamrot, but ends up taken down and being in some tricky grappling positions. He also seems very weathered at this point of the fight. However, he rallies to finish strong in R5. Soundly outst...
